In-state recruiting is an emphasis for Brent Pry. (Virginia Tech sports photography)
Virginia Tech signed 12 in-state prospects on National Signing Day, which shows that the Hokies are refocusing their efforts on the Commonwealth of Virginia under head coach Brent Pry. That comes just one year after Tech signed 13 in-state prospects in a 2022 class that was mostly recruited by Justin Fuente, but was finished up by Pry after his hiring.

TCU did have 7 4 stars in the last 2 years of recruiting.

Great article, CC, with lots of good analysis. I do think your most telling sentence is this one:
"There’s no way to know for sure."
I wish more people would keep that in mind before bashing the coaches based on recruiting rankings. For every Tyrod Taylor, whom I would consider truly a can't-miss 5-star, there are numerous Devon Hunters, whose talents simply don't translate to college, just as many college stars simply don't translate well to the NFL. I have a lot more faith in our coaching staff's decisions than I do in 247's rankings.

Despite your article there will still be some fans who will complain about the lack of 4-5 star players signed. They seem to get caught up in star gazing & will bitch about the poor offer list of some the players we sign.

Great article. One question I haven’t seen a satisfactory answer for is around QB - at one point, Virginia was a hot bed Vicks, Curry, Glennons, Russell Wilson, etc. why did Virginia stop producing good QBs?
Chris Coleman
Here's a big article I wrote about that subject last Spring, along with quotes from a lot of people I interviewed who have a lot of knowledge about the subject.

I crossed up Nazeeh Johnson in a pickup basketball game at the Marshall Rec Center our freshman year. Probably my most impressive athletic accomplishment.

They did a great job in the Richmond area where they have good coaches and programs that have continuity from middle school on and reload every year. Even though there were no 4* I think you will this class is a good start.

Great article and insight.

The 7-on-7 trend we have seen, especially in the 757 would seem to benefit the deveopment of WRs. Real games would seem to benefit OL and DL especially given the toughness and technique that you hope they development. It does not surprise me that Rbs, QBs are not being produced at a quality level...(there have been highly rated RBs who went to PSU or FSU...). The 7-on-7 and the trend toward running QBs stunts the overall growth of a QB (though you would think 7-on-7 would help...but 7-7...without 4-6 people rushing the QB trying to take his head off....
