Virginia Tech will play in the Charleston Classic this weekend. (Kate Haas)
Virginia Tech men’s basketball is 3-0 with three easy wins over Delaware State (95-57), Lehigh (78-52) and William & Mary (94-77). Through three games, the Hokies appear to be pretty much what we thought they would be, but there’s still plenty that we don’t know about this team.

I hope people will remember last year saw two different Hokie teams. The one before the FSU upset and the one that played in the ACC tournament. Now when you go to compare this year's team to last year it's easy to think back to the ACC tourney. We played as far above our normal game for 3-4 games as humanly possible. You can't expect that type of performance night in and night out. So we might want to compare to the team that played the final 10 games or so to help with our expectations.

Penn State has our #. We need to thump them after taking care of ODU.
If we get a couple hot hands against odu…let them shoot till the second half buzzer??

One difference between this year's team and last year's team is that experience of winning early and losing early. Knowing it can go like that is a way to avoid it. I think this team has some new players, but enough remember. I don't know if this team is better or worse than last year--there may be a hidden weakness that gets exploited for a stretch or a hidden strength that makes them even better as a team. But I do know it is a lot of fun watching a team doing the right things and following a positive trend, regardless of the surprises. If we didn't have some surprises (good or bad), why bother playing the games?
