Virginia Tech quarterback Grant Wells was pressured too much by Duke. (Ivan Morozov)
Author’s Note: I wrote the bulk of this article before the shooting in Charlottesville/before the details came out, and what I wrote was goofy in a way that doesn’t match the mood. I’ve trimmed most of the silliness from the writing, though I’m not in a spot right now to edit the videos, most of which have Monty Python clips attached to their ends.

I would have benched Dzansi after game one. He is horrible.

He's been the best Olineman all year...do your homework.

The Duke performance is exactly what I thought VT would be this year - methodical, disciplined, conservative, and moderately successful. Obviously, that did not happen. The (multi) million dollar question is what happens next - there are definitely talent and depth issues on both sides of the ball, but those do not seem to be the only problems. Maybe after all the upgrade “phases” are completed in the athletic department staff and the coaches have a full year of development and implementation there will be marked improvement in the coming seasons - we will see.

I agree with your assessment. I don't follow recruiting closely but I've heard a lot of posters say that we aren't doing all that well on that front. I've also heard them say that some of the coordinators just do not have enough experience especially the OC. I'm pretty much on the "wait and see" bus as Coach Pry deserves a chance to straighten some stuff out.
What I do know is what you said about talent and depth - i.e. we have issues and IMHO they are huge glaring issues. This off season will be closely watched - really rooting for Pry to succeed.

Well said, that is fairly in line with what I thought / hoped. We don’t have a choice but to wait and see but my assessment is we have a well below average staff. There is no phase of our football team that is executing consistently. In fact, the opposite. Every phase is operating inconsistently - and it’s average of that inconsistency is poor. The judge of any effective “management” is whether you are solving the problems you identify. Pry, so far, has been very ineffective. He seems to see the issues but doesn’t know / can’t solve them.
