Virginia Tech quarterback Grant Wells had this long run down the right sideline, but Miami had some backup defenders on the field at that point. (Jon Fleming)
My wife and her mom went to an out-of-town concert last weekend, so I solo-parented my sons for a few days. That’s normally not too big a deal except I was in zombie-mode from a sinus infection that had me blasting blood from my nose like a super villain was ESP-crushing my brain.

You missed the most creative play of the game (that I have asked for since gm 1, but it was better...it gained like 7 or 8 yds..but kept the def off balance and made them know they had to defend the whole field).
Fake WR (or maybe TE) screen to the right to a rb screen left. It had potential to break big, but it serviced the yardage it got. Misdirection.
Some of the variation you pointed out were flat simple plays...that proves Pry's vanilla comments. When an outside read and a PA TE flat (not sure that was a TE screen) and a QB power and QB sneak are now variation plays of "breaking out the playbook" then we are very very vanilla.

Patterson is still kind to the offensive playcallers when he writes: "These calls must’ve been execution trainwrecks in practice, or the staff has been so worried about protecting Wells that they’ve sat on these plays for fear of getting him hit too much. I’d guess it’s a bit of both." I don't believe that failing to run OUTSIDE all season is about execution train wrecks in practice. Not running outside has little to do with protecting Wells. It has been amateurish/high schoolish running plays... and it should be said so. I know it has been said....
