Fontel Mines surprised a lot of Hokie fans (I’m including myself here) when he was hired as WR coach. Since he came from Pry-buddy Ricky Rahne’s ODU squad, maybe it shouldn’t have been so surprising, but no one was grinding his name in the rumor mill until it seemed like he’d been hired. Fortunately, Mines has the potential to be a sneaky-good hire like I hope Brad Glenn turns out to be. (Fun fact: with Mines’ hiring, the entire offensive staff consists of guys who were at one point tight end coaches.)
