Duke, North Carolina and Pitt offered Southampton (Courtland, VA) offensive tackle/defensive end Tyran Hunt last week, boosting the 6’7”, 275-pound junior’s offer total to 10. Seven of the 10 offers have come from Atlantic Coast Conference schools, with NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest joining the aforementioned programs.

Cincinnati, Marshall and Old Dominion have also offered the promising two-way lineman, who admits the recruiting process gets more challenging with each new offer.

“Every time I get comfortable another college shakes it up,” Hunt replied when asked where he stood in his decision making process. “But the big 5 as of right now are VT, UVA, Wake Forest, NC State and Duke. Don't get me wrong though. I'm definitely still wide open and that's subject to change at any given time.”

Hunt is open to out-of-state opportunities, but ultimately this recruiting race could well come down to in-state rivals Virginia and Virginia Tech. Both schools have impressed the 3-star junior, who visited Blacksburg on April 16.

“I LOVE the new staff and really like how they are genuine,” Hunt wrote in a Twitter direct message discussing Virginia Tech. “I love the new staff, their intensity, their vision, their new schemes and things they're bringing in this year. It felt like I was at home when I was there. [Tech head coach Justin Fuente] really wants me as an [offensive tackle].”

Hunt attended a Junior Day recruiting event in Charlottesville in late February, returning home with a scholarship offer from new UVA head coach Bronco Mendenhall. He has a strong relationship with the Virginia staff.

“Me and [UVA offensive line coach Garett Tujague] get closer and closer with each conversation,” Hunt wrote. “Coach Mendenhall checks on me constantly as well and I feel really confident saying I hope to visit again soon.”

In addition to Virginia Tech and UVA, Hunt has taken visits to NC State and Wake Forest. No further visits have been scheduled at this time, but look for the Southampton star to hit the road again later this spring or in the summer with an eye towards making his college commitment at the start of his senior year.

“I think I'll be ready to make my decision sometime in September,” Hunt wrote. “Nothing solid but that's a definite month as of right now.”
