Will Virginia Tech boom, bust, or end up somewhere in the middle with its top remaining targets? This question will be answered one week from today on February 3, which is National Signing Day for the class of 2016.

Eight prospects enrolled at Virginia Tech this month. Ten other recruits -- including new commitment Silas Dzansi -- are expected to sign letters of intent with the Hokies next Wednesday. The number was 11 before this afternoon, when punter Marshall Long announced he had de-committed from the Hokies.

Between now and then the Hokies will host numerous official visitors. Certainly, the potential to finish with a flourish exists.

One recruit Virginia Tech appears to be in good shape with is Raines (Jacksonville, FL) defensive end JaQuan Bailey, who tweeted the following after his in-home with Justin Fuente, Charley Wiles, Galen Scott and Holman Wiggins. Bailey, who is scheduled to visit Blacksburg this weekend, committed to Florida earlier in the process but has since de-committed and is now down to Tech, Tennessee and Iowa State.

The official visit action began today, when Virginia Tech welcomed three top targets -- 4-star wide receiver Rick Wells, 3-star offensive athlete Tyrrell Pigrome and 3-star interior offensive line prospect Dylan Powell – on official visits.

Wells, who is a teammate of the aforementioned Bailey, is a Florida commitment. The Gators reportedly will get the last shot this weekend, but Tech has a chance to impress the next few days. Wells tweeted that he has indeed arrived in Blacksburg (all three prospects are confirmed to be in Blacksburg).

Pigrome has taken an official visit to Tulane and is scheduled to go to Maryland this weekend. The 5’11”, 190-pound senior starred at quarterback at Clay-Chalkville (AL) each of the past two seasons. The Tech coaches have said he will have a shot at quarterback but they also are excited about his potential as a slot receiver.

As of last Sunday Powell had narrowed his list to Iowa State, Virginia Tech and Stanford. He has visited Iowa State, will visit Virginia Tech today through Friday, and will then visit Stanford this weekend. A decision could come as early as Monday.

Coach Fuente and company welcome more targets to Blacksburg on Friday, including Bailey, athlete Marlon Character, cornerback Coney Durr, linebacker Dominique Ross. Additionally, committed prospects -- Tavante Beckett, Emmanuel Belmar, Patrick Kearns and Phillip Patterson are among those on the list -- are expected to make official visits as well.

There is some buzz that Lafayette (Williamsburg, VA) linebacker Chase Pine may visit Tech as well this weekend. We know the staff has not given up its pursuit of the 6’3”, 225-pound Pitt commit, and Maryland is reportedly making a push as well. Pine tweeted earlier in the week that he was solid to Pitt, but this tweet suggests he is not 100-percent sold on his commitment.

Finally, Virginia Tech extended an offer today to Camden Catholic (Cherry Hill, N.J.) athlete Tyree Rodgers. Rodgers is currently committed to Old Dominion but now has an offer from Tech as well as one from Rutgers. We’ll see where things go from here.

Below is a look at the top remaining targets one week outside of National Signing Day. OL Solomon Kindley (Georgia) and CB Nygel King (Utah) are off the board after committing elsewhere. OL Landon Dickerson has been removed from the board as well... at this point we are hearing Virginia Tech is not a possibility. Florida State or SEC.

The Auburn commit is probably still SEC-bound, but Virginia Tech has a chance.

Minnesota, North Carolina and Virginia Tech are the finalists for Durr, who had high praise for Virginia Tech’s program when we reached him earlier this week. I think Tech has a good shot here for the current Minnesota commit.

- Jovani Haskins, TE, New Jersey

Haskins visited Miami last weekend for what is expected to be his final official visit. Virginia Tech and West Virginia round out his top three schools.

- Jarrod Hewitt, DT, Florida

Iowa State and Virginia Tech are strong contenders for the the former Rutgers commit, who will be in Blacksburg this weekend for an official visit.

- Tyrrell Pigrome, ATH, Alabama

Pigrome visits Virginia Tech today and leaves on Friday. A Maryland looms this weekend. It’s likely a Hokies/Terrapins race for the dynamic prospect.

- Chase Pine, LB, Virginia, Pittsburgh commit

Maryland is making a push but I’d be surprised if Pine doesn’t choose between Pitt and Virginia Tech on Signing Day. Tough to tell which way this will go, but I think Pitt fans are probably nervous with one week left until Signing Day.

- Dylan Powell, OL, Missouri

Virginia offered this week, but as of now Powell is down to Iowa State, Virginia Tech and Stanford. If he has a leader, he didn’t give any indication as to which school that would be. This week's visits to Tech and Stanford could well make the difference.

- Malcolm Pridgeon, OL, New York (Nassau CC)

Pridgeon is expected to visit Ohio State this weekend, which is not a good sign for Virginia Tech. The key is getting him to Blacksburg before the week is out.

Tyree Rodgers, ATH, New Jersey (ODU commit)

Rodgers just scored an offer from the Hokies, so it’s unclear as of this writing exactly where Virginia Tech stands on his list.

- Dominique Ross, LB, Florida (UNC commit)

Ross remains committed to UNC but will give the Hokies a close look this weekend.

- Keith Simms, LB, Maryland

Maryland, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Oregon and Virginia Tech made Simms’ final five. The Tech coaches have made Simms a priority and it appears to be paying off, as the talented linebacker told OregonLive.com that his top two schools are Tech and Oregon. According to the report, a decision could come February 1 if not sooner.

Rick Wells, WR, Florida (Florida commit)

It could be tough to pry Wells from the Gators; however, Virginia Tech certainly has a chance.
