National Signing Day For The Class Of 2016: Wednesday, February 3

Recruiting Calendar Through May

- A Contact Period resumed January 14 and runs until January 30. During this time, FBS coaches can visit schools and make in-home visits with class of 2016 recruits. Class of 2016 recruits can make official visits.

- A Quiet Period is January 31.

- A Dead Period is February 1 – February 4.

- A Quiet Period begins February 5 and runs through April 14.

- The Spring Evaluation Period takes place from April 15 through May 31.

CONTACT PERIOD RESUMES; VT LANDS COMMITMENT

As noted above, the Contact Period resumed yesterday and will run through January 30. FBS coaches from all across the country took to the road for the final recruiting stretch before National Signing Day. One of Tech head coach Justin Fuente's scheduled stops was Bethesda, Maryland, to see Landon School linebacker Keith Simms.

Simms, a 6’3”, 230-pound senior, has taken official visits to Maryland, Oregon and Virginia Tech, and he is scheduled to take an official to North Carolina this weekend. Coaches Fuente and Foster obviously wanted to get their message across to the talented defender before he headed to Chapel Hill.

Maryland and Mississippi coaches also stopped by Landon School on Thursday.

Also on Thursday...

- Raines (Jacksonville, FL) senior offensive lineman Solomon Kindley tweeted that Virginia Tech has offered him a scholarship. Last night, 6’5”, 330-pound prospect had an in-home visit with Iowa State coaches. Kindley took an official to Iowa State last fall, but that was when Paul Rhoades was head coach.

In addition to Kindley, Virginia Tech has offered two other Raines seniors in defensive end Jaquan Bailey and wide receiver Rick Wells. Both Bailey and Wells are planning to make officials to Virginia Tech next weekend. At this point, we’re not sure if Kindley will join them.

Wells, a 6’3” receiver, has committed to Florida. Bailey was committed to Florida but has since reopened his recruitment.

- The Hokies capped off the first day of the January Contact Period with a commitment from U.S. Army All-American punter Marshall Long, a 6’4”, 225-pound senior out of South Rowan High School in China Grove, North Carolina. The opportunity is there for Long to step in as the starter next season.

- JaQuan Bailey, DE, Florida

Bailey heads to Tennessee for an official visit this weekend.

- Landon Dickerson, OL, North Carolina

At this point, it appears to be Florida State or the SEC for the Under Armour All-American. An official visit to Florida is scheduled for this weekend.

- Jovani Haskins, TE, New Jersey

Multiple outlets are reporting that Haskins is down to three schools – Miami, Virginia Tech, West Virginia – and he will announce his college choice on National Signing Day.

- Solomon Kindley, OL, Florida

- Nygel King, CB, Texas

King tweeted yesterday that he has scheduled an official visit to Virginia Tech the weekend of January 22-24, which is shaping up to be a big one for the Hokies. The former Houston commit leaves today for an official visit to Utah.

- Kyle Mayberry, CB, Oklahoma

Speedy CB seems pretty firm in his commitment to Kansas at this point.

- Tyrrell Pigrome, ATH, Alabama

Pigrome is scheduled to visit Tulane this weekend and Virginia Tech next weekend. Rutgers recently came through with an offer for the 5’11”, 190-pound senior, who Virginia Tech likes as an offensive athlete.

- Dylan Powell, OL, Missouri

GoldandBlack.com, a Purdue website, reports that Powell has de-committed from Purdue and will take official visits to Iowa State (this weekend), Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech before National Signing Day. Virginia Tech offered Powell in December and will get a chance to impress.

- Keith Simms, LB, Maryland

Simms has taken officials to Maryland, Oregon and Virginia Tech. UNC is up next this weekend and Ole Miss is also making a push.

- Jaquan Yulee, LB, Virginia

Yulee tweeted that he and Indian River junior Devon Hunter will visit Maryland this weekend. Per Rivals, Virginia Tech linebacker Tavante Beckett will be in College Park as well this weekend.

Yulee also tweeted that he will not be signing on National Signing Day.
