In two seasons as the starting quarterback on the Clay-Chalkville (Pinson, AL) varsity football squad, 5’11”, 190-pound Tyrrell Pigrome led the Cougars to 29 wins, a 6A state championship in 2014, and a 6A state runner-up finish in 2015. The 2015 Gatorade Player of the Year in Alabama produced eye-popping numbers over the course of his 30 games, totaling 5,829 yards passing and 2,679 yards rushing. Pigrome threw 81 touchdowns to only 11 picks, and he scored 43 times on the ground the past two seasons.
Justin Fuente, who as Memphis football’s head coach signed six prospects from Alabama in the classes of 2014 and 2015 (including Clay-Chalkville defensive back Kam Prewitt in 2015), recruited Pigrome before accepting the job as Virginia Tech’s head football coach in late November. Fuente decided to offer the dynamic high school senior a scholarship earlier this week.
