Shane Beamer visited Independence High School (Charlotte, N.C.) this past spring to eye Adonis Alexander, one of the Patriots' top prospects. Patriots head coach Joe Evans recalls the Tech running backs coach being impressed with what he saw out of the 6'3", 195-pound safety prospect.
"During the spring, a lot of coaches come by. Coach Shane Beamer came by from Virginia Tech," Evans said. "Adonis is not a big combine guy. Coach Beamer loved him. He was hanging out at practice and saw Adonis running around. He knew who he was. I think he saw how physically imposing Adonis is. Coach Beamer's first words were, 'Kam Chancellor.'"
