Thomas Smith , who starred at wide receiver at Lafayette High School (Williamsburg, VA), signed a letter of intent with Virginia Tech in February of 2012.  After falling short of qualifying academically, the 6'3", 220-pound prospect enrolled at Fayetteville Tech (N.C.), where he is doing well and on track to achieve his ultimate goal of being a Hokie.

"I spoke with (Virginia Tech Director of Undergraduate Admissions) Mildred Johnson.  She said I have met the requirements I needed to meet so far," said Smith, who was urged by Virginia Tech to attend a community college for one year instead of heading to a postgraduate prep school such as Fork Union.
