Lafayette (Williamsburg, VA) rising senior Thomas Smith verbally committed to Virginia Tech yesterday, accepting the scholarship offer he received just days ago. The 6'3", 200-pound wide receiver had been leaning towards the Hokies since getting the good news from primary recruiter Curt Newsome.
"I talked to my dad and told him I was ready to commit," said Smith, whose father, a member of the United States military, is currently serving in Afghanistan. "The Fork Union thing was already in my plans. My dad just wanted to make sure I asked about how everything was set up at Virginia Tech. It fit all our criteria."
