6'4", 190-pound rising senior quarterback/athlete Brenden Motley 's decision to commit to the Hokies is "very exciting," said Tim Cromer, who has been head football coach at Christiansburg High School (VA) since 2002. "We've had a couple of Christiansburg High School kids go over [to Virginia Tech] and walk on, but Brenden is the first scholarship offer. I went to school here, and one of the things I thought of when I came back as head coach was what it would mean to our community to have a scholarship player at Virginia Tech. I think it's one of the things that ultimately made the decision for Brenden."

Playing in front of friends and family wasn't the only consideration for Motley, who wanted a chance to play quarterback on the college level.
