One of the most productive defensive linemen in the state of Virginia's 2012 class, Handley (Winchester, VA) star Derek Dowrey amassed an amazing 145 tackles and 10.5 sacks last season from the nose guard position. Most college coaches are evaluating the 6-3, 275-pound prospect as a defensive tackle, though Virginia Tech likes him as an interior offensive lineman (Derek started at right offensive guard in 2010). The talented lineman, a 2010 VHSCA Group AA first-team all-state selection on defense, is receiving FBS-level interest but awaits his first scholarship offer.
The interested parties, FBS-wise, include Boston College, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, Penn State, Pitt, Virginia and Virginia Tech. James Madison, Richmond and William & Mary are expressing heavy interest on the FCS level.
