Monroe Area (Monroe, GA) senior Demontevious "Demond" Smith is one of the latest football prospects to receive a Virginia Tech scholarship offer. The 6-1, 185-pound prospect played quarterback for head coach Matt Fligg, running the triple-option offense and guiding the Hurricanes to an 11-2 overall record this season.

"Demond, since his freshman year, was a player we knew would be the type of leader to bring us over the hump," Fligg said. "This year, he broke every school record. He had 28 touchdowns. The attitude and work ethic he has is the true meaning of student athlete. Also, he just hates to lose. He is so competitive, but he is a silent competitor. You want the ball in his hands in the last seconds. It's the same for our basketball team. We are 9-0 and ranked fifth in the state. He is a leader on our basketball team."
