The Hokies completed their first scrimmage of the preseason on Saturday afternoon in Lane Stadium. On the whole, things went very smoothly for a first scrimmage, and there were standouts on offense, defense and special teams.
The coaching staff has not installed the goalline offense as of yet, so there were no touchdowns scored. However, that gave the kicking game a lot of work, which was needed. Projected starter Chris Hazley kicked well, hitting all four of his field goal attempts, including one from approximately 48 yards. Hazley appears to have a strong leg, and he made his kicks with plenty of room to spare.
