Currently, 81 players (out of a possible 85) are projected to be on scholarship for the 2011 season. The number will change, but the chances are good that Tech's 2011 class will be a small one, even with the typical grey-shirt maneuvering the staff has used so well over the years. There is a long way to go until Signing Day 2011, but let's take a look at what needs the Virginia Tech staff may look to fill in the incoming class. We start on offense, where there aren't a lot of obvious needs.
Overall, the most pressing needs on offense will be tight end and running back. Landing one or two offensive lineman is ideal for each class as well. Quarterback and wide receiver aren't huge needs right now, though I think the staff would like a prospect for each position.
