In the highest scoring game in the 38 year history of the Virginia High
School Coaches Association All-Star Game, the East came from behind to take an
exciting 38-31 victory, scoring on an intercepted lateral late in the fourth
quarter. The East win evened the overall series at 19-19, and this game was one
of the most evenly matched in the history of the all-star game. The game
featured ten future Hokies divided equally between the two squads, with the West
offensive tackles, Kory Gough and Andrew Miller, often pitted against East
defensive ends, James Gayle, Duan Perez-Means, and Tyrel Wilson.
The future Virginia Tech players all showed well, with Tyrel Wilson winning
the East defensive MVP award. Logan Thomas could have easily won the West
offensive MVP with an outstanding performance at quarterback and receiver, but
versatile Dae'Quan Scott (James Madison) from Robert E. Lee-Staunton HS won
the award, leading two scoring drives playing quarterback and also excelling at
receiver and running back. The lightning-quick Scott scored the West team's
first touchdown on a six-yard run and made several scintillating runs including
a 30 yard catch-and-run in which he eluded almost the entire East defense.
