Virginia Tech is already off to a good start in the 2008 class, having landed dynamic guard/forward J.T. Thompson and guard Shamarr Bowden. But, especially in light of the recent news on Gus Gilchrist, Virginia Tech could be looking to add another in the 2008 class. Several potential targets were in Charlottesville this past weekend for the Southern Invitational, which featured potential Tech targets for future classes as well.
Assuming Gilchrist is gone - probably a safe assumption - Virginia Tech would currently have at least one spot available in the 2008 class assuming there is no attrition or de-commits. Virginia Tech made the initial cut for 5-star Benedictine (Richmond, VA) forward Ed Davis recently, but the Hokies are not considered to be one of the favorites ultimately. UVa, UNC and U-Conn are the likely teams to beat right now, with many feeling that the 'Hoos are in good position right now.
