Question: Is Virginia Tech slow to make early scholarship offers, and do most
of the Hokies' early scholarship offers come in-state? April (ten months before
signing day) is an ideal time to ask this question and examine the answer. As
the Commonwealth of Virginia is beset by college football programs trying to
lure the top players out of state, the early figures indicate that the Hokies
are going out of state strong so far this year, particularly in North Carolina
and South Carolina.

As has been documented extensively, a lot of the in-state talent fled the
borders of the Commonwealth in 2006, and time will tell if that occurs again in
2007. Probably not, at least not to the extent of last year. Virginia Tech has
also stated that with ACC membership, they're going to recruit the mid-Atlantic
states hard, mainly North Carolina, South Carolina, and Maryland.
