It’s finally here…next Wednesday is National Signing Day for the 2006 football recruiting class! Virginia Tech still has one more key recruiting weekend before Signing Day is upon us, so let’s take a look at the remaining targets on Virginia Tech’s board as well as recent happenings and impending decisions.

Recent Commitments and Future Decision Dates…

DT Olufemi Ajiboye switched his commitment to Virginia Tech.

FB/LB Devven Sutton committed to Virginia Tech.

LB Matt Wright committed to Virginia Tech.

DB/LB Marcus Ball will reportedly announce on Tuesday, likely between Florida State and Virginia Tech.

OL Billy Cuffee will commit over the weekend. We expect the decision to come down to Virginia and Virginia Tech.

OL Hutch Eckerson committed to South Carolina.

RB LeSean McCoy is not expected to announce a commitment or sign anywhere. Virginia Tech remains in very good position here, although we’ll have to see what happens next fall (if he makes more visits, etc).

RB Brandon Minor committed to Michigan.

RB Knowshon Moreno will not visit Virginia Tech and will choose between Florida and Georgia.

DT Phillip Taylor cancelled his official visit to Tech and committed to Penn State.

According to his father, DE Brian Whitmore has reaffirmed his decision to attend Maryland.

Important visits for the weekend of January 27th-29th

VT visitors (uncommitted)

TE/DL Dennis Godfrey. This race is tough to call. I think four schools have a legitimate shot here – Clemson, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. Godfrey has taken officials to all three except Virginia Tech. He heads to Blacksburg tomorrow, so we’ll see if Tech can sway him. This will be a close one.
