Rashad Carmichael loved his camp experience at Virginia Tech, especially the fact that the Hokies became the first Division 1A program to officially offer him a scholarship. The 5-9, 175-pound Gwynn Park (Brandywine, MD) prospect, who was a big fan of the Hokies before his camp visit, is now a member of Tech’s 2006 recruiting class.

“Yes, sir,” Carmichael replied when asked if he had committed to the Hokies. He ran a 4.49 in the 40 at Tech's camp. “I talked to coach Beamer first and he seemed pretty excited. He asked me what took me so long (laughs). He said they’re glad to have me and that I’m an explosive player. He said I can run and they’re going to put a little bit of weight on me, beef me up a little bit, so I’ll red-shirt my first year. Other than that, he’s real excited to have me.”
