After having success last year in the state of South Carolina, Virginia Tech is back for more for the 2006 class. The Hokies have offered several prospects in the state, including top cornerback recruit Byron Maxwell. Maxwell is a star at Fort Dorchester High School in North Charleston.

“He’s 6-2, 185-pounds,” Fort Dorchester Steve LaPrad said of Maxwell. “His speed is very good. He’s run a 4.4 and his field speed is probably a little bit quicker than that. Probably his biggest asset, which I know coach Wiles from up at Virginia Tech saw on film, is that he does extremely well in man-to-man coverage. And of course his speed and his height are big assets for him. And he’s got good hands and he’s a good athlete. He’s good in track. He does the 100 and the 200 for us in track. And we haven’t used him on the other side of the ball but we’re going to use him this year. We’ll use him some at tailback and wide receiver.”
