Down 30-27, Good Counsel was driving for the go ahead touchdown against DeMatha Catholic in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Championship game. But on 2nd and goal at the DeMatha 4-yard line, Good Counsel quarterback Reggie Gooch went the right on an option play designed to go left. He pitched the ball into open space and the ball was recovered by DeMatha.
On 4th down on their ensuing possession, DeMatha took a safety when punter Matt Campbell ran around the end zone in an effort to run out the clock. There was still a few seconds remaining, however, and DeMatha was forced to kick-off. Kenny Jefferson entered the game to play special teams and helped make the game winning tackle.
