Virginia Tech has landed one of its top quarterback targets for the 2005 recruiting class. Northwest (MD) star Ike Whitaker, who is one of the top dual-threat quarterback prospects in the country, chose the Hokies today over Maryland, Florida, Clemson and West Virginia.

"Yes, he's going to Virginia Tech," Northwest High School Head Coach Randy Trivers said. "I can't speak for Ike in saying exactly what put them over the top, but I think Virginia Tech has always been an attractive school to him. They have the total package. They offer great education, football tradition and stability. They also have a lot of young talent and will continue to be successful. Location-wise, I think it's attractive to Ike to play in front of family and friends. And most of all, I think he's just comfortable with the people. He's comfortable with all of the coaching staff and players. He just feels very good about the situation."
