Derrick McPhearson had never played wide receiver before his junior season last year. Before transferring to DeMatha Catholic for his junior campaign, he had played running back as a freshman at Howard High School. He was scheduled to play quarterback as a sophomore when a broken ankle in the season opener sidelined him for the entire season.
Despite the lack of experience, DeMatha head coach Bill McGregor says McPhearson has the potential to develop into a great wide receiver.
