On paper this dual won't be very competitive. Coleman Scott had a pretty pedestrian 8-year run at UNC, and I'm a little surprised he's John Smith's heir apparent. Maybe a good move for him, though, because UNC lost a lot from a pretty good team last year. At NCAAs, Austin O'Connor won his second championship and two other Heels were AA. UNC's hammer is Lachlan McNeil at 141 lbs. Only a sophomore, McNeil is ranked 5th by Intermat and the Coaches' Poll and finished 4th in last season's NCAAs. Last season he beat Crook 12-3 in our dual and again in the 3rd place match at ACCs, 10-2. The only other drama may relate to seedings down the road at ACCs. Brady needs a win against unranked Isaias Estrada and, if the rumors are accurate, TJ has a good opportunity against Gavin Kane. Kane is ranked 23 by Intermat and 22 by the Coaches, but finished 8th at NCAAs last season. Hunter Bolen had tough matches with Kane and lost to him a couple times if I remember correctly. Andy Smith has a big match against 19/17 Max Shaw. Getting the #3 seed is a big deal to potentially avoid Trent Hidlay until the finals of ACCs. Shaw is a junior who qualified for NCAAs last season.
