Tough loss last night as the Hokies led most of the game and it would’ve been a huge Q1 win. I thought every thing went how we needed it to in order to win as Hidalgo did not play very well and we won every statistical category besides turnovers…. but at the same time Notre Dame had there other players step up and hit some big shots. When Notre Dame lost to Clemson it was similar feel those players just missed those shots and they hit the shots against us, thats just basketball sometimes. A lot of people complained about the officiating (myself included) but that’s also something you can’t control I mean in the previous game the Hokies made more free throws then Virginia even attempted so refs always play a part but nothing you can control. I thought Wenzel and Baker were great yet again as they combined for 40 points and they need more respect in the conference as one of the best scoring duos in the ACC, they have been top tier. Especially in ACC games. However in order to win games like this one you really need 3-4 players in double figures and the Hokies had two. Lastly, TURNOVERS!!!!! 21 TURNOVERS!!! I’m sure it is very hard to simulate Notre Dames physicality in practice and lack of foul calling played a huge part in that but 21 turnovers is absolutely unacceptable and the main reason why we lost the game. Just gotta be stronger with the ball (which I know is much easier said than done). On the positive notes Notre Dame is nearly a lock for the NCAA tournament and regarded as one of the better teams in the ACC and the Hokies out played them for most of the game. The Hokies can compete with anyone in the ACC outside of Dook and Louisville. I hope Cassel is packed for the showdown against NC State Sunday!!! GO HOKIES!!!
