This is my reminder that it's a long process and doesn't happen overnight. Saw some fans disappointed about some kids VT was targeting, like Wake Forest's Demeara Hinds, commiting elsewhere (Clemson). There are over a thousand players in the transfer portal. A lot of them are really good. VT's not going to get them all, though. Wouldn't worry about many individual misses, such as Hinds. And players are still entering the portal every day, meaning the landscape is continuously shifting. Something else I'll point out: It's still extremely early in the cycle. So much so that Sophie Swanson's commitment today is the earliest a transfer has ever committed to VT in the last handful of years. Previous earliest commitment was Wofford's Da'Ja Green committed on April 5, 2020. Those are the only two that committed in the first 10 days of April. For comparison, dates previous portal players committed to VT over the previous three offseasons: April 11: Kayana Traylor April 15: Rose Micheaux April 18: Clara Ford April 20: Olivia Summiel April 21: Matilda Ekh April 30: Lani White May 13: Taylor Soule Point being, it takes time. Some kids commit sooner than later, but most take their time with the process. The roster probably won't be completely filled out until the middle of May. Swanson should fit in well, and she might be the last guard VT goes after — we'll see. Wouldn't hurt to have a veteran point guard, but then you have to think about if you're stunting the growth of those currently in the program already. Biggest thing now is VT has to go get some size, but that will come with time. Waiting stinks, I know — sometimes you feel like the kid from the Incredibles on the tricycle, waiting around for something amazing to happen — but I'll do my best to keep everyone filled in with what I'm hearing and what's going on. I think the Swanson pickup is a good start, though. We'll see where things go after the dead period this weekend (which purposely coincides with the Final Four).
