After listening to the ACC lady commentators blather on about Hildago

being the ACC player of the year I decided to take a quick look as things stand today. I tried to take my bias out of this. Hildalgo is having a remarkable season but so is Kitley. I think it will come down to these two players. It is a bit tricky to compare statistics because one player is a center and the other is a guard and different things are expected of them. The first statistic, of course, is scoring because that is expected for both players. I have included FG% and FT% to show efficiency. Their ACC ranking is in parenthesis. Then I listed their ranking for the key statistics related to their position - Rebounding & Blocked Shots for Kitley and Assists and Steals for Hildalgo. Hildalgo Kitley Scoring 25.1 (1) 22.3 (2) FG % 48% (7) 54% (4) FT% 80% (8) 75% (11) Assists 5.6 (2) Steals 5.1 (1) Rebounds 11.7 (1) Blocked Shots 2.0 (2) A few observations: Of course there are a few games left so these numbers are going to change. As you can see, the players are ranked 1 and 2 in scoring and 1 or 2 for the key statistics for their positions. Again, both players are having incredible seasons. It is amazing to me that Hildalgo is having this kind of season as a freshman. But it is also amazing to me that Kitley has improved on her statistics from last season (when she was ACC Player of the year) when she was double and triple teamed and generally beat up nearly every game. I also wonder if the voters take into consideration if a player leads their team to an ACC regular season or tournament title. In the end, I honestly think it would be unfair for either of these players to lose this award. I could see ACC Co-Players of the Year.
