You are right a GM isn't responsible for fundraising, because pro teams

don't have to worry about fundraising efforts. However, at the collegiate level, the role may be slightly different and even officially called a different name too. Plus, the function would still be the same because fundraising would still be 1 of many jobs the position has to fulfill during the fiscal year. Other responsibilities include tracking revenues, tracking expenses, filing the necessary financial statements at the end of the fiscal year, negotiating any contracts, and other required accounting functions that is historically the responsibility of the Athletic Department.
