Seasons, Don McLean, Neil Diamond, et als. the acoustics of a wood and tectum barrel vault for any music are horrible, weird at best (but great for hoops and wrestling noise). Cassell has a place in sports venues for medium scale sports events where you want intimate, up-close seating and magnified home court advantage. but it will never be a large sports, concert or even convention hall to which those events aspire. we were super blessed to have Mr Cassell donate it back in the 60's; it was spot-on for that era; and it has played host to many outstanding events and Hokie memories still live there. retro-fitted properly, Cassell could effectively still host events for 8,000 to 10,000 so long as acoustic quality isn't required. if a larger venue for basketball could be situated close to the athletic corner of campus and bulk of our dorms, and parking added (multi-story please), with the upgraded 460 bypass entry it could become a regional sports and cultural draw, as well as an exciting venue for Hokies' sports.
