It is coached that way more and more these days. If you hold onto the mask you don’t need to worry about stumbling over it. Only drop the mask if it is keeping you from getting to the ball in time or if you need to make a quick throw for a secondary play. I didn’t learn that way, but that doesn’t make it wrong
