Folks, I'm going to ask for a favor 4 those that went to this w-end games

I have been mulling this over since Saturday and after talking to a generous softball donor, I'm going to throw it out there in hopes that you'll help me out. I happened to have a lengthy, unplanned, and somewhat contentious conversation with a person of authority in the Athletic Department on Saturday before the game. Most of it centered around charging admission and in respect to him, I won't share everything that was said since there is already a strained relationship between VT softball fans and the administration (apparently my fault, but I certainly didn't intend it that way). This person says that in order to charge for softball, it will take $100,000 to set up the appropriate gates. They are working on that but there are also other things to consider such as creating pass lists for the VT players and the opposing teams, and the possibility that charging admission will discourage little league teams from attending. Personally, I think there are other ticketing alternatives that mitigate those concerns, but he assured me that he was aware of numerous ticketing plans. He also said that any money raised from softball admissions would go into a general fund and NOT directly to softball. He suggested that if people really want to help the softball program, then they should simply contribute to the program directly. So with that in mind, here is my proposal to the board: If you went to a VT softball game(s) this weekend, please consider making a $10 contribution per ticket (NC State charges $10 per ticket so that's my benchmark). If you want to make the donation directly to the Hokie Club, great. However, I have a generous softball donor who is willing to match any dollars (up to $20,000) sent to me. So...if you had two seats for one of the games and decide to send me $20, it will become $40 for the softball program. Simply make the check to "Virginia Tech Athletic Fund - Softball" and mail to me at Chip Grubb 8155 Bent Mountain Road Roanoke, VA 24018 Like always, I will gather the checks together and take them to the Softball staff (Coach Pete/Bill Olds) and they will get them to the Hokie Club. You will still get credit for a specific sport donation. If you would rather do PayPal ([email protected]) or Venmo, you can do that as well, but it's a little more bulky to get the Hokie Club credit since it's flowing through my account (which I'm not crazy about, anyway).
