At the end of the day, the decision to send Kleiman out in the 7th is really no different than dozens of other baseball/softball coaching decisions. When it works, you look like a genius. When it (inevitably) doesn’t work sometimes, you look and feel like a goofball. Pulling your starting pitcher while she’s still having success, a squeeze bunt, 1st and 3rd plays, sending in a pinch hitter, waving the runner around 3rd when there’s gonna be a close play at the plate … so many others. All a coach can do is do what they feel is best for the team in that moment, and then hopefully it works out. So awesome that sending Kleiman in last night worked out. She got a couple of key, tough outs and we got the win! What an amazing game to watch at TSP. The best part is seeing the players celebrate at the end when all of their hard work is rewarded by a win. The 2nd best part is seeing all the softball parents and alumni celebrate with everyone in the stands. And thinking about the coaches …. No doubt that they are excited and happy for the team … but I bet there’s a good amount of relief in there as well :) What a great win and an amazing day at TSP. Go Hokies!
