Did not see this coming. Feels like we are back to 2 pitchers only.
This pitching is beginning to look a lot like last year’s. Grein has improved but just seems to give up a walk or homer at the most inopportune time. As for Lemley her velocity and rise can get her some outs but I think Midlo is right in that her ball just doesn’t have any spin whatsoever. Hitters who can come around on it and not chase the rise balls way out of the zone are having success against her. And as the season goes on there is always more film out there.
Hitting wise, I still think we are doing ourselves a disservice by not taking more pitches and working more counts. Not just talking about Cam’s groundout to end the game, which was a first pitch. Just in general, a lot of the first pitches we hit go for outs. I’m sure the data is out there. Seems like a lot of the home runs are deeper in counts. Seeing the ball a few times each at bat can help you. This strategy frustrates me to no end.
Tempering my expectations for this season. Feels like that Duke series got to us between the ears.

Right now we don't have an ace pitcher that can win a low scoring game.

I think that’s right. Good pitchers but no great ones.
