Will do. The concept is pretty simple. I haven't quite figured out all
the startup costs yet and how much effort it would take VT to maintain it. Plus, I am not sure how open the current leadership would be to this idea.
Do you remember when Chip did the auction and some of the prizes were autographed softballs? I ended up winning 1 of the autographed balls and I told Chip to give it to a young fan. During that conversation Chip told me how the girls would stick around and sign autographs for any young fan who wanted it. Then it dawned on me what if every girl on team had the opportunity to give an autographed ball in a case to a young fan during the season? Then I took it one step further and thought is there a way for VT softball to use this program (aka Arthur's Circle) as a fundraising effort throughout the season? Basically fans could sponsor a player handing out multiple autographed balls during the season. I had not decided whether it would generate more money to allow fans to pick specific players or donate to a general pot that would be divided among the entire team.
Basically it would allow the team to make a connection with their young fans in a grassroots way. The hope is that this positive experience would encourage the young fans to follow that player's career at VT from FR year to SR year. It may even lead to parents/guardians taken those kids to more home games and eventually they may start to financially support the team because of the impact the softball team has had on their kid. That's Arthur's Circle in a nutshell.
