VT softball fans are tremendous and a good reflection of the energy a motivated fan base can bring, particularly through the efforts of ambassadors like Chip, Bonnie and the others that have joined their team. $10MM for a facility, even if slightly more or less than that, is a lift of an entirely different magnitude and VT has yet to envision the strategy or exhibit the ability to make something of that magnitude happen. The most visible expansion projects(Lane and English) are far more about state revenue bonds than any fundraising groundswell. VT likely has resources with the ever expanding alumni base but, fundraising structure is a major challenge that has lagged for years and is still playing catch up.
