Pete was upset because the wrong umpire was calling the illegal pitches.

His point was that it is the first base and third base umpires job to call a pitch illegal - and they weren't doing it. Instead it was the second base umpire directly behind Lemley making those calls. Note that umpire was the third base umpire in yesterday's KY game and the first game today. She called all but one of the illegal pitches in those two games (and then all of them again in game 2 today). I'm guessing Pete had seen enough of a single umpire making those calls, especially in the 2nd game today when the two umpires primarily responsible for calling them were not doing it.
