Politics run the world! Money talks, and BS walks! It's that way starting

in rec youth sports! In my 35 plus years of coaching softball, baseball, basketball and football I have seen politics at every level. Which is sad! When I played baseball and softball after high school I saw politics play a huge factor in the teams I played on. When I coached my daughter and son in sports, I saw politics rear its ugly head! The world revolves around money and the power it brings! The SEC coffers are so crammed full, that the NCAA is the whipping boy of the SEC! The Big 10 also has more clought than the ACC and Big 12. Think about the Danny Cole catch in the Sugar Bowl against Michigan. The refs were from the Pac 12. It was reported that officials from Michigan were in the replay booth when the decision was being made. Do you think some money changed hands? It also was reported during the broadcast that the replay official in the booth, was removed as a game official on the field and placed in the replay booth. If he wasn't good enough to be an official on the field, why was he even allowed to be the replay official? High school athletics, Little League baseball, travel ball, and other sports leagues are chalked full of politics. Now add in NIL, the transfer portal millions and millions of dollars to pay collegiate athletes big bucks to come play for them. Ohio State bought them another national championship in football. Georgia, Alabama, LSU, and Clemson opened up the checkbook before the NIL and transfer portal were even around. Najee Cannady, pitcher of the year in the NCAA, was bought out by Texas Tech for a reported seven figure offer. Texas Tech had never won the Big 12 in softball until this season. Their coach and mulitiple players from Louisiana came with him to Texas Tech. A very good Arizona team couldn't compete with them and they have eight pitchers on their staff, but none the quality of Cannady. College athletics as we knew it is gone, and all they are now are the minor leagues for professional sports!

vatechcowpatty 05/12/25 07:20 AM ET
Amen to that! ACC teams, except FSU has to always travel to play the SEC
PokieHokie 05/12/25 10:50 AM ET
Yep. We were 2-3 vs SEC but ALL were road games **
hokiepro 05/12/25 09:20 AM ET
We were smoked by LSU. Split with Bama
MrFantastic! 05/12/25 06:05 AM ET
We lost 7-4 to LSU because of 2 dropped fly balls in 25mph winds
hokiepro 05/12/25 07:03 AM ET
You are using excuses again. LSU had to play in wind.
MrFantastic! 05/12/25 07:23 AM ET
No they didn't. Don't you know that the weather only affects the game when
VTBAMA 05/12/25 08:40 AM ET

MrFantastic! 05/12/25 06:35 AM ET
Of course we left it for the committee. That part esp. Pitt is our fault
hokiepro 05/12/25 09:25 AM ET
They indeed control what they desire. I guess I am use to it.**
MrFantastic! 05/12/25 10:31 AM ET
That Pitt series did us no favors **
HokiesACC2004 05/12/25 07:06 AM ET
WE did ourselves NO favors in the Pitt series, plus Clemson.
Atlee Hokie 05/12/25 08:21 AM ET
Yeah. Just sweep Villanova and win 2/3 vs Pitt and we’re playing at TSP**

I think UCLA and Oregon were hurt by their new conference
VTsportscaster 05/12/25 12:25 AM ET
UCLA softball was the biggest loser from the conference shake-up
MidloHokie 05/12/25 06:58 AM ET
Oregon got to host ??? UCLA lost to teams that old UCLA would beat
VAHokie89 05/12/25 12:53 AM ET

VAHokie89 05/12/25 12:21 AM ET

VTsportscaster 05/12/25 12:31 AM ET
Lots of players besides Canady get NIL**
texashokie1 05/12/25 09:06 AM ET
And note the many teams from Florida who made the tournament
VAHokie89 05/12/25 12:42 AM ET
All? No. But you can bet the FSU's and SEC teams have at a minimum twice
ancient alien 2018 05/12/25 12:27 AM ET
With the PAC 12 gone, yes it’s that good.**
VTsportscaster 05/11/25 11:33 PM ET
