If Sophie can't recover her form Layton's development may be key. If she .

. . . could become a twice through a lineup performer (5 innings/game) that would be huge. Mazz must get control issues in check. Can't continue to average a free pass (BB + HBP) every inning (17 in 18 innings pitched thus far) and be successful. If Mazz can't fill the "ace" role (based on coach's preseason comments he's not leaning that way) then there must be a minimum of two other reliable arms with Carrico and Layton appearing the best candidates thus far.
