16. All conference champs. The rest broken down this way...

-10 conference champs -4 conference runners up (chosen by a committee after the conference championship games) -Last 2 spots go to the winners of two play-in games played the same weekend as the conference championship games (FOUR highest ranked teams NOT playing in a conference championship game play for two spots in the CFP). This would likely be Notre Dame and three P2 teams. Basically, it is 24 teams playing for 16 spots on championship weekend. Have the CFP start the very next weekend, national final on Jan. 1 at the Rose Bowl 🌹. In fact, just call it the Rose Bowl. It speaks for itself. No one NOT playing on conference championship weekend is eligible for the CFP. All 16 teams play the same amount of games to get there. No byes. Yuge ratings. Especially the play-in games. Break down would likely be: SEC: 2-4 Big Ten: 2-4 ACC: 2 BigXII: 2 G6: 1 each Notre Dame: 0 or 1 EDIT: Oops, meant to post under the below post. Sorry. I'll do better next time. ** Edited by Maroon Baboon at 7/28/2026, 7:02:36 PM
