Flugaur’s show late last night

Greg says conferences are in deep discussions about scheduling semifinal games to raise more money. Another part of this will be other teams not in the semis would play a flex game. He has mentioned this before. I haven’t had a chance to listen to the entire show but will add more details after I do. EDIT. Just listened to about half of it. He doesn’t want to burn his sources but says this is “pretty far in the weeds”. Without saying directly he seems to be referring to the Big 12 and probably some G5s. This would be a way to increase revenue. His theory is conferences will form pods and have a semifinal weekend. I’m assuming this would be the weekend after Thanksgiving and conference championship games would be the week after (like it is now). Teams who don’t qualify for the semifinals will play a “flex” game where you play a team from another pod to make a nine (or ten) game conference schedule. It was a hard show to listen to. Greg is just getting back from vacation and sounds like he may a bad cold or Covid. Anyway, interesting speculation. It would be easy for the Big 12 to implement this. Not so sure about the other power conferences but if the $ is right I’m sure they will find a way to make it happen. ** Edited by Millpoint at 8/10/2024, 8:39:20 AM ** Edited by Millpoint at 8/10/2024, 8:42:16 AM ** Edited by Millpoint at 8/10/2024, 8:49:12 AM

"Far in the weeds" would mean unlikely, correct?

Those are the words he used
Millpoint 08/12/24 09:09 AM ET
So in theory, a team could play as many as 18 total games
I85Hokie 08/11/24 12:57 PM ET
I think he’s saying the semifinal would be the 12th regular season game.
hokieball 08/13/24 07:24 PM ET
Since we are an odd number, Notre Dame can play our last place team.

I've been wanting college football to do flex scheduling for years.

The bigger the CFP gets, the less likely a conference playoff gets.

Once the SEC and B1G ram through all "at large" selections to the CFP-
