But ESPN knows they have our media contract locked up and played hardball. If a new media deal for a 20 team ACC paid each team exactly the same as it is getting today, what would you do as the commissioner? What would you do as the individual schools? If this scenario were to happen then I think I would react exactly like FSU and Clemson. The ACC would effectively be stuck at a lower rate no matter how much they expanded or who they expanded with. And if I’m the ACC then it might not make sense to expand if payments don’t change. It would only be change for the sake of change and not really have a tangible benefit. I suspect the ACC is stuck in every respect. Stuck with members, stuck with payments, and stuck with ESPN. Perhaps the leadership has worked hard behind the scenes and was unable to make anything work despite a desire to be aggressive. All just hypothetical though.
