People often don’t consider your 1st point, but you’re 100% correct.

The only reason UVA had any leverage at all to get VT into the ACC in 2003 was due to UNC and Duke taking the stand to say ‘No’ to any expansion. Without that, UVA would have been urinating into the wind.
