ND has only one rival
That is Southern Cal and we don't really like them, either.
The rest, including Stanford, are just opponents on a schedule. Fungible. (Michigan is a good example)
Navy is seen as a WW II obligation. Many ND fans think playing them 77 years in a row is enough and has paid that debt.
Getting Stanford (ND and Stanford have only been playing annually for 25 years and mostly because ND wants to end every season in California for recruiting) will not move the needle that much for ND to join the ACC in full.
ND fans have been on the receiving end of "I hate ND" crap for decades. They don't have a lot of warm feelings for other schools or for conferences.
Now, if the ACC had gotten Texas and Southern Cal, then that might be a bit different.

That ND/Stanford question would be better for goldendomer to answer

Stanford is just an aspirational peer, not a rival

Excellent Analysis. For the ACC it will follow what ESPN wants
