Bingo on the "Top 25" number. Anyone looking to remove "bias" should start

by ignoring polls. And what is so magical about 25? Why not 16 or 5 or 29? I'm old enough to remember the AP Top 20. Not sure why expanding that to 25 was even necessary, but whatever. And if you are using polls as a barometer at all, they are inherently biased. Figures don't lie, but liars figure. And it's a bit of a fool's errand to find a fixed point as a foundation to figure ANY of this selection process out objectively. I also remember when people complained about the computers. And I agree that no team left out this year has a beef. In the end, I just hope an undefeated team doesn't get left out. That was always my biggest complaint about the systems in the past. In no other serious sports league is an undefeated team prevented from challenging for the top prize. In the end, I hope that championships continue to be a valued criterion. But conference realignment (read: TV networks) have made this more challenging criterion to uphold. ** Edited by Maroon Baboon at 12/27/2024, 11:22:44 AM

If you could set th rankings criteria for the playoff, what would be in it?
Stech 12/26/24 11:24 AM ET
The argument, I suppose, is whether you are crowning the best or a champion
Hokester 12/30/24 09:54 AM ET
That would be the ideal way, but obviously the SEC and Big10 would...
cincyhokie 01/01/25 01:16 PM ET
I wouldn't set strict criteria
Pylons 12/29/24 07:13 AM ET
Remember, the 2 team BCS used a compilation of computer rankings
PadrosWindup 12/28/24 10:01 AM ET
Some objective mathematical criteria is better than none, we can & should
Stech 12/28/24 10:19 AM ET
I would do it like European soccer.
Gobbler-100 12/27/24 09:55 PM ET
No rankings until November 1
mrcaniac 12/27/24 07:25 PM ET
Unfortunately you can’t stop the media from having polls. And then pundits
IB4TECH 12/27/24 08:55 PM ET
Can stop using their polls in the CFP rankings though**
mrcaniac 12/28/24 06:28 PM ET
How?
Pylons 12/29/24 04:04 PM ET
Something not talked about enough: the college football punditry class love
Maroon Baboon 12/27/24 10:26 PM ET
So true!!!**

Most objective way to make changes is to do relegation and promotion.
Maroon Baboon 12/27/24 07:01 PM ET
Something like this. A minimum of 9 wins, and win your bowl game.
Truthahn 12/27/24 01:25 PM ET
If you are going to introduce "math", just use computer rankings...
jesuisvtguy 12/27/24 12:55 AM ET
Like your more equitable math suggestion on who u beat, opinion domination

Only computer rankings that have zero input from polls.
EDGEMAN 12/27/24 10:17 AM ET
Exactly, not only the P2, but everyone including ND would play more tough
Stech 12/27/24 04:23 PM ET
Correct. No "experts" allowed, only cold hard data bits.**
Hokester 12/27/24 12:32 PM ET
i don't think it matters
MrBayAreaHokie 12/26/24 06:02 PM ET
It matters to encourage parity.
Truthahn 12/27/24 01:27 PM ET
Beat UVA, you’re in playoff.
lawhokie 12/26/24 11:50 AM ET
That would only fly, if UVA went to P2.**
manassashoo 12/27/24 09:54 AM ET
Conference winners only. Let the conferences split up, and only
Big12 guy 12/26/24 11:38 AM ET
What's nice about this is that all participants are decided on the field.**
Hokester 12/27/24 12:35 PM ET
If interested n fairness or integrity, they would, but their goal is 💵💵💵
Stech 12/26/24 02:44 PM ET
The total purse will be the same regardless of who is in it
daveinop 12/27/24 08:07 AM ET
I would do more NFL style with even smaller groupings
HokieAl 12/26/24 02:29 PM ET
This makes the most sense **
