I guess they could, but there's no real reason to. I think the conference
championship games need to go away at this point. When you have 16-18 team conferences, you aren't playing half the teams. The schedules are imbalanced, and you end up with weird matchups. ND is fine being an indy, and not having that last data point anyway.
