Answering machine hell...
Yep, spent a few hours today. Starting social security this month. They will automatically deduct your Medicare from that: fine. Except I've had Medicare for years now and paid the premiums from my checking account.
So easy to just kill the latter, right? not so fast my friend. No easy website clicks can do that. Finally called the bank and they couldn't help me either b/c I couldn't remember my "clue" which I set up 20 years ago that would identify me as me. "Hit by a rock"? I'm sure that made sense at one time. Likewise bang around the Medicare site trying to find some easy clicks there to get them to turn off payment requests. Finally, after even talking to an advocate stumbled on "Medicare Easy Pay" and filling out a pdf form. Yep, I stumbled into a govermental time warp filling out s pdf and mailing it to St Louis. Two can play at this game, if this is the way its going to be...wrote up a cover letter like hasn't been seen in these parts, addressed to "sirs" and finishing with your faithful, obedient male chauvinistic pig servant 'lag."
May be this is appropriate considering this is probably the last official governmentese piece of paper I'll ever fill out, a little nostalgic walk down memory lane signing a cover letter in cursive. Kids today don't know what fun is.
