"Weapons" - it might not be the best film of the year but it certainly has one of the best scripts. The way the story unfolds through the different character perspectives reveals the core mystery piece by piece and pulls you in along the way. Delightfully gory climax. "One Battle After Another" feels like Oscar bait from Paul Thomas Anderson but I found it pretty funny. Eternal sex symbol Leonardo DiCaprio is out-sexy-ed by his co-star and much younger (directly on brand here) love interest Teyana Taylor. Story-wise, I figure half the country would like it and half wouldn't - it's that kind of film. "Wake Up Dead Man" aka Knives Out 3 is a puzzle box mystery for super sleuth Benoit Blank to solve - or does he? Best performances by the two priests, as played by Josh Brolin and Josh O'Conner. Everyone else is kinda one-dimensional - a frequent criticism of Rian Johnson films. I've liked all three Knives Out films but dramatically this one is the best. "Avatar Fire and Ass - I mean, Ice" - you know those films that are like three and a half hours long but seem to fly by? This is not one of those films. It feels every bit of it's three hour and 17 minute run time. It feels exactly like the first two in story structure but the newer characters get developed better and have more to do. Lots of action in the third act. The best new character is the bad girl, Varang, played by Oona Chapman. But in the end I don't think the experience is worthy of the production cost - reportedly over $400 million sans marketing. Cameron is trying sooooo hard to get you to care for his characters but the animation is just too close to the uncanny valley for that to happen.
